Scottish Physical Activity Research Connections (SPARC), established in 2016, is a network of physical activity researchers, policy-makers and practitioners in Scotland, organised by the Physical Activity for Health Research Centre (PAHRC) at the University of Edinburgh and the Active Scotland Division at the Scottish Government.

In 2026, we celebrate a major milestone; 10 years of SPARC. This year’s conference theme, “10 Years Connecting Research, Policy and Practice in Physical Activity,” reflects a decade of collaboration, knowledge exchange, and collective impact. Over the past ten years, SPARC has played a vital role in bringing together evidence, expertise, and real-world practice to support the development of more active, healthier communities across Scotland.

This year’s conference will provide an opportunity to reflect on progress, share learning, and explore future directions for strengthening the connections between research, policy and practice in physical activity.

The conference will take place in person on Wednesday 2nd December 2026 at the John McIntyre Conference Centre in Edinburgh, Scotland.
